Managing IP becomes much more complicated when contracting with the government. Patent holders must be aware of everything from sovereign immunity issues to reporting requirements; from validation procedures to secrecy orders; from the Competition in Contracting Act to labeling obligations; and, from the State Open Records Acts to March-In Rights. Also, failure to comply with US government laws and regulations such as the Economic Espionage Act can result in violators receiving long jail sentences.
