By Editorial Team

Nine news outlets, including The Virginian-Pilot, Los Angeles Daily News, and Hartford Courant, have recently filed lawsuits against Microsoft Corp. and OpenAI Inc. for alleged intellectual property theft. The news outlets claim that the tech giants have willfully infringed upon their copyrighted works to train their generative text products.

This legal action adds to the growing list of authors and publishers who have accused Microsoft and OpenAI of misusing their content. The lawsuit alleges that the companies used the copyrighted material without permission or proper licensing.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages for the unauthorized use of their intellectual property and are pushing for accountability from Microsoft and OpenAI for their actions.

The case has been filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Law firms such as Rothwell Figg are representing the news outlets in this legal battle.

Microsoft Corp. and OpenAI OpCo LLC are the defendants in this case, with The New York Times Co. also involved in the legal proceedings.

This lawsuit highlights the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in the digital age and the legal challenges that arise as technology continues to advance.
