Advocacy

Overview

We speak for brand owners by working to foster effective laws and policies worldwide on trademark and related rights and to harmonize the implementation of those rights.

We carry out advocacy through a policy framework of Board resolutions, Model Laws and Guidelines, amicus briefs, testimony and submissions, and reports.

Our approach is a collaborative effort between dedicated volunteers and staff engaged in 19 advocacy committees that examine national and regional regulations, treaties, legislation, and trends and develop the policies and resources to ensure that we’re targeting the most pressing issues for brand protection and enforcement. After the Board approves recommended policies, our advocacy team fosters the necessary relationships with government officials, international organizations, and other policy and rule-making bodies.
