Sherman is a legal professional with deep expertise in data privacy, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. He advises both domestic and multinational clients across a broad range of industries, including infrastructure, hospitality, tourism, banking, technology, biotech, Internet, and manufacturing. His practice centers on data governance, incident response, and cross-border data transfer, delivering pragmatic and compliant solutions tailored to complex regulatory landscapes.
Sherman holds an LLB from Fudan University and an LLM from the UC Berkeley School of Law. He is admitted to practice in both the People’s Republic of China and the State of New York. Recognized as an “Up and Coming Lawyer” by Chambers China, Sherman also serves as a Director at the Cyber and Information Security Association of Shanghai.
Fluent in both Chinese and English, Sherman actively contributes to the legal community. In 2025, he was a guest speaker at the DIA China Annual Meeting, where he presented on data privacy issues in decentralized clinical trials.
His career includes a decade at White & Case LLP (2005–2015), where he advised global clients on cross-border regulatory and compliance matters, followed by seven years at Marriott International, Inc. (2015–2022), where he led regional data privacy and cybersecurity initiatives across Asia-Pacific.
