An Eastern District of Texas jury has decided that Taiwan-based electronics company AUO Corp. and Chinese TV maker Hisense did not infringe two Phenix Longhorn LLC display patents, in a rare defense verdict for Taiwanese and Chinese companies in the Texas district’s Marshall division, according to defense counsel.
The case involved the alleged infringement of two display patents, specifically 7,233,305 and 7,557,788, which were asserted by Phenix Longhorn LLC. The jury’s decision in favor of AUO Corp. and Hisense marks a significant victory for the defendants in a district known for favoring patent holders.
Defense counsel representing AUO Corp. and Hisense included attorneys from Findlay Craft, Leach & Walker, Perkins Coie, and Womble Bond. The case also involved other major technology companies such as Samsung Electronics, Sharp Corp., Texas Instruments, Vizio Inc., and Wistron Corp.
The verdict highlights the complexities and challenges faced by international companies in patent litigation, especially in jurisdictions like the Eastern District of Texas.
