By partnering with renowned content creators like Netflix and Lionsgate, Roblox is unlocking a new level of storytelling and gameplay potential. These partnerships will allow game developers and studios on the Roblox platform to create officially licensed experiences that include iconic characters, storylines, and worlds — without the fear of copyright strikes or takedown requests.
“They’re making it easier for creators to collaborate with the world’s biggest brands and create the kind of immersive, authentic experiences users love,” said Manuel Bronstein, Chief Product Officer at Roblox. “This is a pivotal step in our journey to become the most dynamic and trusted platform for user-generated content that respects and protects intellectual property.”
This move positions Roblox as a leader in safe, scalable licensing for user-generated content (UGC), setting a new industry standard. Previously, creators often ran into copyright conflicts when building content inspired by popular franchises. Now, with the new platform, they can build and monetize experiences with full legal backing — and share revenues with IP holders in the process.
Netflix has reportedly opened its catalog for titles such as Stranger Things, One Piece, Cobra Kai, and Squid Game, while Lionsgate is offering franchises including Twilight, Saw, and Divergent. Kodansha is also supporting the initiative with access to manga-based properties. Sega’s inclusion of Like a Dragon (formerly Yakuza) adds to the list of high-profile names.
Industry analysts see this as a smart move for all parties: IP holders gain new avenues for fan engagement and monetization, creators receive legal access to valuable assets, and Roblox reinforces its status as a creator-first platform.
