Tesla and Elon Musk to Face ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Copyright Lawsuit

By Editorial Team

A Los Angeles federal judge has ruled against Tesla and Elon Musk’s motion to dismiss a copyright infringement lawsuit. The complaint alleges that Tesla used imagery from the movie “Blade Runner 2049” without authorization for a promotional event.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, accuses Tesla and Musk of unauthorized use of copyrighted material from the science fiction film. The judge’s decision means that the case will proceed to trial, where the defendants will have to defend against the allegations.

According to court documents, the plaintiffs in the case include Alcon Entertainment, Alcon Vision LLC, Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., and Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. These companies hold the rights to “Blade Runner 2049” and claim that Tesla’s unauthorized use of the movie’s imagery constitutes copyright infringement.

The legal teams representing the plaintiffs in this case are Anderson Yeh and Fish & Richardson. On the defendants’ side, Tesla Inc. and Elon Musk will have to prepare their defense against the copyright infringement claims.

The decision by the federal judge underscores the importance of respecting intellectual property rights and obtaining proper authorization for the use of copyrighted material. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for how companies approach the use of third-party content in their promotional activities.
