Matthew C. Phillips has over20 years of experience in patent law in government service and private practice.  Matt is a founding partner of Renaissance IP Law Group LLP in Portland, Oregon, where his practice focuses on review, reexamination, and reissue proceedings.  The lawyers at his firm have appeared as counsel in over 60review proceedings to date.  He has written over 30 nationally published articles on such topics and, for the last seven years, biannually taught a three-day advanced CLE course on those topics for Patent Resources Group.

Matt is a former multi-year law clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and an electrical engineer.  He holds a doctorate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Utah and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to founding Renaissance IP Law Group, Matt was a partner at a major law firm.

Matt has held numerous leadership positions in local and national bar associations, and he is an adjunct professor, teaching a patent prosecution course, at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon.
