James is a seasoned business and legal executive, with more than 20 years of international experience that includes serving as General Counsel/Chief Legal Officer, Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer, Chief Information Protection Officer, Corporate Secretary, Board Director, Senior Board Advisor, Management Committee Chair/Member, Entrepreneur and Engineer.
He founded Global GC in 2016 to provide a better alternative for legal services. Global GC is designed to provide select clients with the highest level of practical legal advice, compliance, and risk management services, performed by senior attorneys with top-notch international and in-house experience and training, but without the high cost of traditional law firms.
James’ substantive legal experience includes all aspects of business law, corporate and securities matters, intellectual property and technology law, dispute resolution and litigation, compliance, privacy, and regulatory matters, data protection, corporate governance, risk management, insurance matters, labor, employment and executive compensation, M&A, venture capital and private equity, establishing legal departments and policies and procedures, leading cross-functional teams to align business and legal objectives, etc.
James represents clients in the United States and throughout Asia, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere in a wide variety of industries, including computer and electronics technology (hardware, software, AI, digital currencies, blockchain, and online payments systems, etc.), telecommunications, medical devices, biotechnology, clean technology, chemical and pharmaceuticals, energy and infrastructure, banking and finance, etc. Representative types of matters include contract drafting and negotiation, corporate formation, structuring and financing, cross-border transactions, intellectual property counseling, licensing, litigation and procurement, compliance, ethics and regulatory, dispute resolution (arbitration, trial work, International Trade Commission proceedings), SEC filings and reportings, etc.
Prior to founding Global GC, James was Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Head of Compliance, and Corporate Secretary at the AG&P group of companies. He also served as a Director and Management Committee Member. James previously served as a Partner at several large, international law firms. Before that, he was the Director of Intellectual Property at Quantum Corporation, where he was responsible for developing, executing and overseeing the company’s intellectual property creation, management, licensing, litigation and monetization strategies, as well as handling numerous acquisitions and other transactional matters, compliance, ethics, and data protection counseling, and training and general business and corporate matters.
