Bangladesh Medical University Marks World IP Day with Campus Rally and Innovation Initiatives

Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) celebrated World Intellectual Property Day 2026 on Monday, organizing a colorful rally that commenced in front of Block B on the university campus. The event was held under this year’s global theme, “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate,” and aimed to raise awareness among students, researchers, and stakeholders about the critical role of intellectual property rights in supporting knowledge, research, and innovation.

The rally was coordinated by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and formally inaugurated by BMU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. F. M. Siddiqui, who attended as the chief guest. In his opening address, Professor Siddiqui emphasized the university’s role as a hub for knowledge, research, and innovation, highlighting BMU’s ongoing contributions in these areas.

Professor Siddiqui announced that BMU has undertaken effective initiatives to establish an Invention Hub designed to further promote innovation within the university. He noted BMU’s significant potential in advancing medical education, research, and innovation in the healthcare sector.

The Vice-Chancellor also stressed the importance of securing intellectual property rights for innovations developed at the university. He remarked that in today’s era of rapid advancements in knowledge, science, and technology, it is essential to focus on protecting patents, copyrights, and other forms of ownership related to intellectual creations. He described the observance of World Intellectual Property Day as highly significant in this context.

The event was attended by several senior university officials, including Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahreen Akhtar, and Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Mostafa Kamal.

Other notable attendees included Professor Dr. Syed Akram Hossain, Chairman of the Department of Clinical Oncology; Md. Lutfor Rahman, Personal Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Controller of Examinations; and additional faculty members, physicians, and university officials.

The program was presided over by Professor Dr. Nurun Nahar Begum, President of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell. Dr. Dine Mojahid Md. Faruk Osmani, Additional Director of IQAC, served as the event moderator.

The celebration reflected BMU’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and ensuring that intellectual property rights are recognized and protected as a vital component of academic and scientific progress.
