The Cayman Islands government is providing entrepreneurs and business owners with four opportunities in 2026 to attend free workshops focused on intellectual property (IP) protection and utilization. This initiative was announced by the Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce to support local business development.
The Cayman Islands Intellectual Property Office, in partnership with the Cayman Islands Centre for Business Development, will host the “Brand and Business” workshop series. These sessions are open to both existing clients of the Centre and the general public, with advance registration required to participate.
Each workshop will address key topics including the trademark application process, strategies for turning intellectual property into valuable business assets, common legal and branding risks, and how IP can be leveraged in licensing agreements, investment opportunities, and business expansion plans.
The scheduled dates for the workshops are August 21 at 3 p.m., September 21 at 3 p.m., October 23 at 10 a.m., and November 20 at 3 p.m. All sessions will take place at the Cayman Islands Centre for Business Development office, located at Suite 101, Baytown Plaza on West Bay Road.
Terita Kalloo, Director of the Cayman Islands Intellectual Property Office, emphasized the importance of IP knowledge for business success. She stated, “Whether you are starting a new business, developing a product, or looking to expand an established company, understanding IP is an essential part of long-term success.”
Kalloo highlighted that intellectual property encompasses a range of protections, from safeguarding a business name or logo to creating opportunities for licensing and attracting investment.
The Ministry of Financial Services and Commerce noted that the workshops aim to equip businesses with practical information to effectively manage their intellectual property and to avoid potential legal and branding pitfalls.
This educational effort reflects the Cayman Islands’ commitment to fostering a supportive environment for business innovation and growth through enhanced IP awareness and management.
