China Science Patent & Trademark Agent Expands Global Reach with Specialized Patent Practice and Landmark Litigation Success

China Science Patent & Trademark Agent began as an agency operating under the Chinese Academy of Sciences but has since grown into a substantial intellectual property firm with significant resources and a broad international footprint. The firm now employs over 400 professionals and staff across multiple offices located in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Wuhan, Jinan, Changsha, Hong Kong, Osaka, Tokyo, Washington, DC, and Paris.

The firm’s patent practice is organized into several specialized groups to provide clients with expert support tailored to their technical and linguistic needs. These groups include electrical engineering; mechanical engineering; chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology; three Japanese-language groups covering electrical, mechanical, and chemical disciplines; a domestic business group; and an application department.

This structure enables China Science to deliver focused expertise in diverse technical fields, ensuring clients receive specialized patent services aligned with their industry sectors. Additionally, the firm’s patent attorneys collaborate closely with its Litigation Group to handle patent invalidations and court trials when disputes arise.

Among the firm’s leading practitioners is Wei Zhao, a top patent attorney who has managed hundreds of patent applications for globally recognized companies. Zhao possesses broad technical expertise and is well-versed in prosecution procedures at major patent offices, including the European Patent Office (EPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

China Science recently played a pivotal role in an administrative patent litigation case involving the rejection and reexamination of the subject-matter eligibility of a business method patent application. The case was ultimately decided by the Supreme People’s Court of China, which ruled that the application complied with the provisions of China’s patent law.

This ruling attracted significant attention within the intellectual property community and was selected for inclusion in the 2024 Judgment Digests of the Intellectual Property Court of the Supreme People’s Court. The decision underscores China Science’s capability in navigating complex patent litigation and shaping patent eligibility jurisprudence in China.

With its comprehensive patent practice, international presence, and litigation expertise, China Science Patent & Trademark Agent continues to be a leading player in China’s intellectual property landscape, supporting clients across multiple jurisdictions and technical domains.
