India’s Trademark Registry to Replace Current Search Portal with Advanced Platform on July 1, 2026

The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM) has announced a significant upgrade to India’s trademark search infrastructure, set to take effect on July 1, 2026. On this date, the existing Public Search of Trade Marks portal will be decommissioned, with all trademark search operations and associated digital services migrating to a newly enhanced platform accessible at https://tmrsearch.ipindia.gov.in/ESEARCH.

This strategic move is designed to modernize the trademark search ecosystem across India, aiming to improve user experience and provide more efficient access to trademark-related information. The upgrade is expected to benefit a broad spectrum of users, including businesses, legal practitioners, startups, corporate entities, and intellectual property consultants.

Currently, users rely on the Public Search of Trade Marks portal to conduct trademark availability searches, monitor application statuses, and access trademark data. Following the migration deadline, all such activities will be exclusively available through the upgraded portal.

The revamped platform introduces multiple enhancements focused on accessibility, security, and search efficiency. These improvements are anticipated to streamline trademark searches, enabling users to identify similar or conflicting marks more effectively. This capability is crucial for brand protection and registration strategy, as trademark searches help applicants assess the likelihood of successful registration before filing.

Authorities have urged trademark professionals, applicants, and brand owners to begin familiarizing themselves with the new system immediately. Users are also encouraged to update bookmarks and internal references to the new portal to avoid disruption once the transition occurs.

This migration is part of broader digital modernization initiatives within India’s intellectual property administration framework. The overarching goals include enhancing transparency, improving service delivery, and increasing accessibility for all stakeholders involved in trademark registration and enforcement.

To facilitate a smooth transition, organizations are advised to train team members responsible for trademark searches and filings on the upgraded platform well in advance of the July 1, 2026 deadline.

By proactively adapting to the new system, trademark professionals and businesses can ensure continuity in their trademark search activities and leverage the improved functionalities offered by the enhanced portal.

This development marks a significant step in India’s ongoing efforts to modernize its intellectual property infrastructure, aligning with global best practices and supporting the country’s growing innovation ecosystem.
