Neal Gerber Eisenberg (NGE), a prominent Chicago-based law firm, has welcomed Brian P. Murray as a partner in its Intellectual Property practice group, effective May 26, 2026. Murray will concentrate on life sciences, bringing extensive experience in patent litigation and strategic intellectual property counseling.
Murray’s career spans more than ten years advising clients in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and advanced technology industries. He has served as lead counsel in federal court cases involving biotechnology, biosynthesis, pharmaceuticals, and engineering-driven technologies. His expertise includes managing complex patent disputes and guiding clients through critical stages of intellectual property development.
Robert G. Gerber, Managing Partner at NGE, emphasized the strategic value Murray adds to the firm, stating, “Brian’s arrival strengthens our ability to support clients navigating increasingly complex scientific and commercial challenges in the life sciences sector. He brings a thoughtful, practical approach to intellectual property strategy and litigation that aligns well with how we serve our clients.”
Murray’s proficiency extends to Hatch-Waxman litigation, a specialized area involving pharmaceutical patent disputes related to generic drug approvals. He advises clients on intellectual property matters throughout the product lifecycle, including pre-development planning, portfolio management, and commercialization considerations.
Kevin A. O’Connor, incoming chair of NGE’s Intellectual Property group, highlighted Murray’s technical and litigation skills: “His ability to manage discovery in technically intensive patent litigation and work effectively with complex scientific subject matter will add immediate value to our clients and strengthen our growing practice.”
Murray’s background in chemical engineering and early pharmaceutical research experience provide him with a practical understanding of the scientific and commercial factors influencing his clients’ intellectual property strategies.
He earned his Juris Doctor with a certificate in intellectual property law from DePaul University College of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan. Beyond his legal practice, Murray is actively engaged in pro bono work, advising a charitable research grant foundation and assisting Afghan refugees seeking humanitarian parole to enter the United States.
