Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP has announced the addition of Ian Edvalson as a partner in its Corporate Department based in San Francisco. This strategic hire is designed to bolster the firm’s life sciences transactions and intellectual property capabilities, particularly in the biopharmaceutical and medical technology sectors.
Edvalson’s practice focuses on transactions involving both public and private life sciences companies. His expertise encompasses licensing and collaboration agreements, intellectual property considerations in mergers and acquisitions, and other commercial arrangements that support the development and commercialization of life sciences products and services.
The firm highlighted that Edvalson’s arrival will enhance Paul, Weiss’s ability to advise clients on complex strategic transactions where intellectual property, technology, and commercialization rights are central to deal structures.
His work spans the entire lifecycle of life sciences transactions, including agreements governing the development, licensing, and commercialization of pharmaceutical and biotechnology assets.
Paul, Weiss emphasized that Edvalson’s experience will complement its Intellectual Property & Technology Transactions Practice. This practice collaborates closely with the firm’s corporate teams on transactions involving patents, technology, and other intangible assets.
The practice advises clients on integrating intellectual property assets within broader deal frameworks and develops transactional strategies aimed at identifying opportunities and mitigating IP-related risks.
Ian Edvalson has been recognized by Chambers USA in the Life Sciences: Corporate/Commercial – California category since 2021, with prior recognition spanning from 2007 through 2014.
His academic credentials include a bachelor’s degree in Korean and a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from Brigham Young University, followed by a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
Paul, Weiss currently employs over 1,500 lawyers worldwide, advising corporations, financial institutions, and asset managers across corporate transactions, litigation, and restructuring matters.
