San Diego, CA – On October 8, 2026, Procopio announced that Seyoung Cheon has joined the firm as a Partner in its California Patent Prosecution practice, based in the Del Mar Heights office. Cheon’s addition expands Procopio’s capabilities in handling sophisticated technologies and strengthens its service to clients across the Asia Pacific region.
Cheon brings more than two decades of intellectual property experience spanning both the United States and Korea. Her technical background in electrical engineering supports her advisory role to U.S. and international companies throughout the patent lifecycle. This includes patent prosecution, portfolio development, post-grant proceedings, licensing, due diligence, and enforcement strategy.
Her expertise covers a wide range of technologies such as semiconductor memory and storage devices, image sensors, wireless telecommunications, digital video processing, computer hardware and software, consumer electronics, and medical devices.
Dennis Doucette, Managing Partner at Procopio, emphasized the value Cheon adds to the firm’s patent practice: “Seyoung adds considerable depth to a patent practice that serves innovative companies in California and around the world. Her technical background, experience in both the U.S. and Korea, and ability to help clients manage intellectual property across borders are particularly valuable as we continue to grow in California and expand our Asia Pacific practice.”
Fluent in Korean, Cheon practiced for over nine years as a Korean Patent Attorney at leading law firms in Seoul. There, she handled patent prosecution, invalidation proceedings, and patent infringement matters. Currently, she advises multinational and domestic companies on U.S. intellectual property matters and cross-border IP strategy.
Her practice also includes assisting innovative startups entering the U.S. market to develop intellectual property portfolios that support their growth trajectories.
Cheon commented on her decision to join Procopio: “Procopio’s dynamic culture and well-established Asia-Pacific practice provide the ideal foundation for my practice. The firm’s collaborative environment and full-service capabilities will allow me to deliver even more agile, high-touch, and strategic counsel to both global innovators and domestic technology companies navigating complex cross-border challenges. I am thrilled to join such an entrepreneurial team and look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued growth.”
She is admitted to practice in California, before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and the Korean Intellectual Property Office. Cheon earned her LLM from the University of Southern California and holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
Her professional excellence has been recognized by Best Lawyers Ones to Watch in Intellectual Property Law annually from 2021 through 2026.
