UK Intellectual Property Monthly Report for April 2026 Highlights Data Gaps Amid System Transition

The UK Intellectual Property Office (UK IPO) has released its monthly statistics report for April 2026, providing factual data on applications and registrations for patents, trade marks, and designs within the United Kingdom. This report is part of the UK IPO’s ongoing effort to maintain transparency and provide stakeholders with up-to-date information on intellectual property activity.

However, the April 2026 publication includes a notable caveat. Due to changes implemented as part of the One IPO Transformation Programme—a major initiative aimed at modernizing and streamlining intellectual property services—there has been some disruption affecting the compilation and publication of patent request data.

As a result, the report does not include patent request figures for March and April 2026. The UK IPO has confirmed that these missing data points will be incorporated in subsequent monthly statistics releases once the system updates are fully integrated and data integrity is assured.

The report continues to cover trade mark and design application and registration statistics, offering stakeholders insight into trends and volumes in these IP categories despite the temporary absence of patent request data.

The UK IPO encourages users of its services and the wider public to provide feedback on their experience with the GOV.UK website and related services to aid ongoing improvements. A survey link is provided within the report for this purpose.

The One IPO Transformation Programme represents a significant modernization effort, and while it has caused some temporary data reporting interruptions, the UK IPO remains committed to restoring full statistical reporting accuracy and timeliness.

Stakeholders relying on patent data for March and April 2026 are advised to await forthcoming reports for complete figures. Meanwhile, the available data continue to support analysis of UK intellectual property trends in trade marks and designs.

The UK IPO’s monthly statistics reports remain a critical resource for legal professionals, businesses, and policymakers monitoring the intellectual property landscape in the UK and Europe.
