The ODP, which has been publicly accessible since February 2025, serves as the USPTO’s centralized platform for a variety of patent and trademark datasets.

This new registration requirement is part of the USPTO’s agencywide effort to bolster the security of publicly available federal data. By requiring users to create and log in with a USPTO.gov account, the Office aims to mitigate costly, unregistered bot traffic that can degrade the portal’s performance.

Users who already possess a USPTO.gov account are considered registered and can continue to access the ODP by signing in via the ‘Sign in’ link located at the top right corner of the portal’s website. The USPTO has indicated that later this summer, it will request additional profile information from existing users to enhance customer profiles. This data will support the development of improved products and future offerings.

The registration process is straightforward. Interested users can visit the Register for ODP Access page on the USPTO website to complete the necessary steps. Additionally, a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section is available to assist users with any queries related to registration and access.

The USPTO emphasized the importance of ensuring that email security settings do not block links from official communications. Users experiencing difficulties accessing links in USPTO emails are advised to consult their IT or email administrators to whitelist domains such as links-1.govdelivery.com and links-2.govdelivery.com.
