AIUB Celebrated World Intellectual Property (IP) Day 2026

On April 26, 2026, the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) observed World Intellectual Property (IP) Day by organizing a seminar and a rally, aligning with the global theme for the year, "IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate."

The event commenced with an inaugural address by Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor of AIUB. In his remarks, Dr. Rahman emphasized the crucial role of intellectual property in fostering innovation and safeguarding creative works, particularly within the rapidly evolving sports industry.

A highlight of the seminar was the keynote presentation delivered by Mr. Mirza Golam Sarwar, Deputy Director (Patent) at the Department of Patent, Industrial Design & Trademarks, Ministry of Industries, The People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Mr. Sarwar provided an overview of the various forms of intellectual property, including patents and trademarks, and discussed foundational concepts such as the criteria for patentability. His session also included an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing attendees to engage directly with the subject matter.

The seminar concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor of AIUB. Dr. Islam underscored the increasing significance of intellectual property in a knowledge-driven global economy and encouraged continued awareness and engagement with IP issues among students and faculty.

The event took place at the AIUB Auditorium, drawing active participation from both faculty members and students. Following the seminar, a rally was organized to further raise awareness about intellectual property rights and their importance in academic and professional contexts.

The program reflected AIUB’s ongoing commitment to promoting innovation and intellectual property awareness within its academic community. By focusing on the intersection of IP and sports, the university aimed to highlight the legal, commercial, and innovative aspects that drive progress in the sports sector.

Through this initiative, AIUB reinforced its dedication to equipping students and faculty with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the evolving landscape of intellectual property, both in Bangladesh and globally.
