Armenia Unveils Export Support Initiatives Targeting EU and Middle Eastern Markets, Says Economy Minister Papoyan

Armenia’s Ministry of Economy has launched a series of support programs designed to stimulate exports to the European Union and the Middle East, announced Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan on June 1.

Speaking to reporters, Papoyan outlined that the programs include reimbursement schemes for transportation costs, customs duties, and, in certain cases, expenses linked to intellectual property rights. These initiatives aim to reduce the financial burden on exporters and encourage expanded trade relations with key international markets.

"The Ministry of Economy has presented a number of support programs related to exports to the EU and the Middle East, reimbursement of transportation costs, customs duties, and, in some cases, expenses related to intellectual property (IP)," Papoyan stated.

The minister emphasized that Armenian exports to the European Union have already doubled recently, reflecting positive momentum. However, authorities intend to accelerate this growth substantially, targeting a four to fivefold increase in exports to the EU by the end of the year.

In addition to economic measures, Papoyan addressed recent diplomatic developments. When asked about the telephone conversation between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, he described it as a "warm conversation" and expressed confidence that outstanding issues would be resolved swiftly.

"These are technical issues. After the elections, we will resolve them all very quickly," Papoyan said.

Further diplomatic engagement was noted with a recent meeting between Papoyan’s deputy and Russian counterparts, which he characterized as conducted in a "very positive atmosphere," with all parties committed to addressing existing problems.

On the domestic political front, Vahagn Hovakimyan, Chairman of Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission, confirmed that invalidating results from three polling stations does not affect the overall election outcome. The commission has officially confirmed the election results, despite challenges from opposition groups questioning their legitimacy.

Amid regional instability, the World Bank’s "Armenia Monthly Economic Update – June 2026" reported that the ongoing Middle East conflict has not had a significant observable impact on Armenia’s economic activity to date.

Experts like Manaseryan have underscored the importance of Armenia diversifying its export destinations while maintaining existing economic ties, a strategy aligned with the government’s new export support programs.

These developments reflect Armenia’s proactive approach to strengthening its economic resilience through targeted export promotion and diplomatic engagement, aiming to mitigate external risks and capitalize on new market opportunities.

The Ministry’s export support programs, combined with ongoing political and diplomatic efforts, position Armenia to enhance its trade footprint in the EU and Middle East, fostering sustainable economic growth in a complex geopolitical environment.
