Crimes of infringement of intellectual property rights worth about 280 billion won, including counterfeit K-brand goods, were caught last year. Until now, crimes of infringement of intellectual property rights have been mainly targeted at famous overseas brands. However, with the recent increase in popularity of Korean brands, smuggling and distribution of related counterfeit products are also on the rise.

According to the Korea Customs Service on the 4th, the amount of intellectual property infringement crimes related to imports and exports cracked down last year totaled 278.9 billion won, up 64% from the previous year (170.5 billion won).

The main items caught include 120.6 billion won for clothing, 43.8 billion won for bags, 40.5 billion won for personal miscellaneous goods, 17 billion won for household electric and electronic products, and 5.4 billion won for toys and stationery.

In particular, in August last year, an e-commerce company that entered a large open market and promoted AmorePacific's major brand, Sulwhasoo Cosmetics, took orders, and distributed 7,000 fake cosmetics by delivering them directly from China was arrested. If the fake Sulwhasoo product that the company secretly imported and sold is considered as a genuine price, it is worth 800 million won.

The Korea Customs Service will conduct a "special crackdown on intellectual property infringement crimes" at 34 customs offices nationwide from this day to the 30th of next month in line with the period when demand is concentrated, such as Family Month and the summer vacation season.

The special crackdown will focus on the import and distribution process of personal products such as food, medicine, cosmetics, and health functional foods, household electronics, toys, good's, clothing, and bags.

To this end, the Korea Customs Service will set up a dedicated investigation team at each customs office across the country to intensively analyze information on online sellers suspected of violating K-brand intellectual property rights and select and investigate suspects.
