Egypt and Sweden are poised to enhance their collaboration on intellectual property (IP) protection, innovation, investment, and industrial development, following a strategic meeting held on Thursday between key officials from both countries.
The discussion took place between Hisham Azmy, President of the Egyptian Authority for Intellectual Property, and Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Sweden’s Ambassador to Egypt. The meeting focused on advancing Egypt’s IP framework as a critical component of sustainable development and economic transformation.
Azmy emphasized Egypt’s prioritization of intellectual property as a foundation for transitioning to a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. He detailed ongoing efforts by the Egyptian Authority for Intellectual Property to develop an integrated system that safeguards IP rights and streamlines registration processes. These initiatives align with Egypt’s national legislation, international obligations, and global best practices.
Highlighting the authority’s pivotal role, Azmy noted that robust IP protection enhances the investment climate by securing the rights of innovators, investors, and holders of patents and trademarks. This, in turn, boosts investor confidence and attracts foreign direct investment.
Azmy also underscored Egypt’s progress in supporting domestic industries, particularly in pharmaceuticals and technology sectors. Efforts to localize production, accelerate industrial development, and reinforce pharmaceutical security were described as integral to national security and economic resilience.
Ambassador Juhlin-Dannfelt praised Egypt’s comprehensive reforms aimed at modernizing its intellectual property framework. He recognized the establishment of the Egyptian Authority for Intellectual Property as a unified national body overseeing all IP fields, lauding it as a strong institutional model on the international stage.
The ambassador stressed that effective IP protection is vital for attracting foreign investment, especially from Swedish and European companies. He highlighted Egypt’s increasing appeal as an investment destination, attributing this to the country’s clear vision for a modern knowledge economy.
This bilateral engagement reflects a shared commitment to fostering innovation ecosystems and industrial growth through strengthened IP regimes. Both parties expressed optimism about future cooperation to support inventors, investors, and industry stakeholders.

The developments between Egypt and Sweden mark a significant step toward reinforcing intellectual property protection as a driver of economic development and international investment partnerships.
