Garmin Secures CIRQA Trademarks in Europe and Canada, Signaling New Wearable Sensor Device

Garmin has taken significant steps toward launching a new wearable device under the brand name CIRQA, as evidenced by recent trademark registrations in Europe and Canada. The company filed for the CIRQA trademark with the European Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), following prior certifications in Singapore and the United States.

The trademark filings describe CIRQA as a wearable device equipped with electronic sensors designed to measure various physical parameters. Notably, the device is said to monitor both physical and mental recovery, as well as detect physical and emotional stress.

This description suggests that Garmin CIRQA may feature an electrodermal activity (EDA) sensor, which measures stress by tracking the skin's electrical activity. However, the filings do not conclusively confirm the inclusion of an EDA sensor, as stress detection could also be derived from heart rate variability metrics, a method employed by competing fitness devices.

Earlier certifications indicate that CIRQA will transmit data exclusively via Bluetooth and will not include a built-in GPS module. This design choice positions CIRQA as a fitness wristband rather than a full-fledged smartwatch.

Rumors further suggest that CIRQA could serve as an accessory to Garmin’s existing smartwatch models. For instance, when paired with a Garmin Fenix 8, CIRQA might enable more precise workout recognition and collect additional biometric data during exercise sessions. This integration could enhance the accuracy of workout analysis and recovery tracking.

The timing of CIRQA’s market release remains uncertain, but the progression of trademark registrations and certifications points to an impending launch.

Garmin’s CIRQA trademark filings underscore the company’s continued investment in wearable health technology, aiming to compete with devices like the Whoop 5.0, Google Fitbit Air, and Polar Loop.

As Garmin expands its portfolio, CIRQA may represent a strategic move to offer consumers advanced stress and recovery monitoring capabilities in a streamlined, Bluetooth-enabled wristband.
