Liz Isaac Shares Intellectual Property Career Insights with OCU Law Students

On April 13, Spencer Fane attorney Liz Isaac returned to Oklahoma City University School of Law as a guest speaker for the patent law class led by Associate Professor Timothy Tau Hsieh. Isaac, herself an alumna of OCU Law, spoke to students about her distinctive educational and career trajectory, which has been consistently centered on intellectual property law.

During her presentation, Isaac detailed the significance of seeking leadership and service opportunities throughout her career. She underscored her involvement in several organizations, including the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), where she played a pivotal role in introducing the USPTO Patent Pro Bono Program to OCU Law. Isaac also discussed her contributions to the Oklahoma Bar Association Intellectual Property Section Board, the Oklahoma County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Board, and the OCU Law Alumni Board.

Beyond her legal affiliations, Isaac highlighted her participation in non-legal organizations such as Leadership Oklahoma City, Allied Arts, and IgniteOKC, illustrating the broader impact of community engagement on professional growth.

Isaac’s current practice at Spencer Fane focuses on assisting businesses, entrepreneurs, and artists in evaluating and protecting their inventions, creative products, and ideas. She provides strategic counsel on a range of intellectual property matters, including due diligence, patents, trademarks, copyrights, entertainment law, and internet law.

Her expertise also extends to licensing, transactional work, adversarial proceedings, and litigation. Isaac emphasized the importance of holistic IP management, noting her collaborative approach with colleagues who have specialized expertise to develop comprehensive global IP strategies. This, she explained, helps strengthen companies’ market positions and enhances their business options.

Isaac’s visit provided students with practical insights into the diverse career paths available within intellectual property law and the value of active participation in both legal and community organizations. Her experience in bringing national programs to OCU Law and her ongoing commitment to leadership roles served as a model for aspiring attorneys seeking to make an impact in the field.
