NLU Delhi Collaborates with Mentblue to Launch Practitioner-Focused Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Rights

India's Intellectual Property (IP) economy is expanding rapidly, intensifying the demand for legal professionals who are not only knowledgeable in IP law but also adept at its practical application. Recognizing this critical need, National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), via its Centre for Regulatory Studies (CRS), has partnered with Mentblue to launch a Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Rights: Law & Practice. This initiative is part of The Practice Series, aimed at immersing participants in the realities of IP law as practiced within Tier 1 IP firms.

The course distinguishes itself by featuring a practitioner-led faculty comprising partners and senior lawyers from premier Indian law firms including Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Khaitan & Co., Anand & Anand, ZEUS IP, and CMS INDUSLAW. These instructors bring firsthand experience in filing, enforcing, and licensing IP rights, ensuring that the curriculum reflects current industry practices rather than purely academic perspectives.

Structured to cover the entire IP lifecycle, the program guides participants through the sequential stages of IP matters as they unfold in real cases. Topics span from trademark prosecution and portfolio management to enforcement, licensing, and strategic considerations.

A key feature of the course is its live drafting workshops, where participants engage with authentic documents such as examination reports, cease-and-desist notices, license agreements, and patent claims. This hands-on approach is designed to build practical drafting skills essential for IP practitioners.

To incentivize excellence, the top-performing participant in each cohort is offered an internship opportunity with CMS INDUSLAW, providing valuable exposure to high-caliber IP practice.

The course is officially supervised by NLU Delhi's Centre for Regulatory Studies, and successful participants receive certification issued by the University, adding academic credibility to the practical training.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the program features weekend-only live sessions and grants six months of access to recorded content. This format accommodates both law students and working professionals seeking to enhance their IP law capabilities without disrupting their existing commitments.

- Module 1: Trademark Prosecution & Strategy, covering filing, prosecution, portfolio management, brand protection, anti-counterfeiting, and litigation.

- Module 2: Industrial Designs, addressing registration, enforcement, stacking strategies, and international protection.

- Module 3: Copyright & Media Laws, exploring fundamentals, digital copyright, AI implications, and the media and entertainment value chain encompassing development, production, distribution, and regulation.

This collaboration between NLU Delhi and Mentblue represents a significant advancement in IP legal education in India, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical expertise demanded by today's IP economy.
