SimplifAI Systems Secures Chinese Patent for AI-Based Traffic Management Technology

SimplifAI Systems Limited, a Huddersfield-based artificial intelligence company, has been officially granted an Invention Patent by the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), marking a significant milestone for British innovation in the global technology sector.

The patent, titled “Traffic Strategy System and Method of Implementing the Same” (Patent No. ZL202080021001.8), acknowledges SimplifAI Systems’ breakthrough in leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize urban infrastructure. This achievement positions the Yorkshire-based firm among a select group of Western AI companies that have successfully navigated China’s rigorous patenting process.

The newly granted Chinese patent adds to SimplifAI’s growing intellectual property portfolio, which already includes a granted UK patent (GB2598661) and a pending US patent application for its goal-centered AI traffic management methods. The company’s technology is designed to address the universal challenges of urban congestion and environmental impact by implementing automated, real-time traffic strategies.

TusPark UK, an early investor in SimplifAI Systems, has played a pivotal role in supporting the company’s international expansion. Colin Tan, Director of Operations for TusPark Holdings (UK), led the cross-border program—the first of its kind between the UK and China. Tan emphasized the importance of supporting British companies in navigating and growing within the Chinese market, noting the complexity of securing intellectual property protection in China for foreign technology firms.

“Securing a patent in China is a notoriously complex hurdle for foreign technology firms. SimplifAI’s successful application highlights the global relevance and technical novelty of their AI-driven approach to traffic management,” said Tan.

The development of the patented system was led by a team of experts in artificial intelligence and transport, including Keith McCabe, Lee McCluskey, James Blackwood, and Mauro Vallati. Their work focuses on providing solutions to urban congestion and reducing environmental impact through advanced, automated traffic management strategies.

By obtaining patent protection in China, SimplifAI Systems not only safeguards its intellectual property in one of the world’s largest and most competitive markets but also lays the groundwork for future international collaborations. The company’s leadership believes this achievement could help redefine the way modern cities manage transportation and mobility challenges.

The recognition from CNIPA underscores the technical innovation and global applicability of SimplifAI’s technology, further strengthening the company’s position as a leader in the field of intelligent transport management.
