Taiwan’s IP Office Integrates AI to Streamline Trademark Naming and Registration Process

Taipei – In a move to enhance trademark registration efficiency, Taiwan’s Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) announced on Monday the integration of an AI-powered automatic naming recommendation system into its trademark query platform. This new feature is designed to assist applicants in selecting compliant and precise names for their goods or services, a critical factor in the trademark examination process.

According to TIPO, the choice of product or service names significantly influences the review timeline. Frequently, trademark applications face delays due to names that are either overly broad, unclear, or misclassified. Such issues necessitate amendments that prolong the examination period.

The AI tool allows users to input a product or service description and receive up to 20 suggested names. These suggestions are drawn from a database of previously approved applications, ensuring that the recommended terms align with established classification standards.

By providing real-time guidance on applicable terms, the system aims to reduce improper designations, thereby improving filing accuracy. This enhancement is expected to lower administrative costs for both applicants and examiners by decreasing the need for subsequent corrections.

TIPO emphasized that while the AI tool offers valuable assistance, applicants remain responsible for selecting names that accurately reflect the actual use of their goods or services.

Looking ahead, TIPO plans to continue refining the search platform by incorporating user feedback and advancing AI capabilities. The office intends to further integrate this technology with its online filing system to streamline the overall trademark application experience.

This development reflects Taiwan’s commitment to leveraging artificial intelligence to modernize intellectual property administration and support innovators in protecting their brands more efficiently.
