Vietnam Urges U.S. to Provide Fair Evaluation of Intellectual Property Protection Measures

Vietnam has formally requested that the United States offer an objective and balanced evaluation of its intellectual property (IP) protection efforts, following the U.S. government's recent decision to designate Vietnam as a 'Priority Foreign Country' in its annual report on global IP protection and enforcement.

Responding to a reporter's inquiry about Vietnam's reaction to the U.S. designation, Pham Thu Hang, spokesperson for Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, outlined the country's ongoing initiatives to strengthen IP rights. Hang noted that Vietnam has made significant strides in recent years, including enhancements to its legal framework, increased public awareness campaigns, and expanded international cooperation with organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the United States, and other countries.

"Vietnam has also taken firm action against violations of IP rights. This remains both a high priority and a consistent policy of Vietnam to build a healthy and transparent business environment and to transform its growth model with science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key drivers," Hang stated.

The spokesperson emphasized that Vietnam's commitment to IP protection is integral to its broader economic strategy, which prioritizes innovation and digital transformation. Hang highlighted that the government has implemented concrete measures to address IP infringements and is dedicated to fostering a transparent and competitive business environment.

Hang also pointed out that Vietnam has maintained active and effective cooperation with the United States in the area of intellectual property protection. She reiterated Vietnam's willingness to share information and clarify its policies and regulations with U.S. counterparts.

"We believe that both sides should continue close coordination to appropriately address differences, for the benefit of both countries, and toward building a stable, balanced, and sustainable framework for economic and trade cooperation," Hang added.

Vietnam's response comes as the country seeks to address concerns raised by the U.S. while underscoring its progress in aligning with international IP standards. The government remains committed to ongoing dialogue and collaboration with the United States and other international partners to further strengthen its IP protection regime.
