Waterparks Cancel Release of 'INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY 2: LOST IN THE PROPERTY' Citing Unforeseen Challenges and Mental Health Concerns

Waterparks, the American rock band known for their dynamic sound and energetic performances, have officially cancelled the release of their forthcoming album titled 'INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY 2: LOST IN THE PROPERTY.' This album was intended as a sister record to their 2023 release, 'INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.'

Prior to the cancellation, the band had released several singles from the album, including 'SNEAKING OUT OF HEAVEN' and 'FAI2,' the latter featuring artist Zeph. However, in a statement posted on their official Instagram account, Waterparks revealed that a combination of factors outside their control compelled them to scrap the project entirely.

The message conveyed a sense of frustration and exhaustion, stating: "I no longer feel good about INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY 2: LOST IN THE PROPERTY and will be canceling the release. The sheer amount of unprecedented mishaps, bureaucratic red tape, and bizarre things that have gone wrong truly has me believing the universe is working against this project and I’m tired of fighting it. It sounds dramatic but without going into every specific detail, this album feels haunted."

Beyond external complications, the band highlighted the personal toll the project has taken. The lead member reflected on the mental health impact of engaging with the album's themes, particularly those related to religion, which have been a recurring focus over the past three years. The statement continued: "Living in the PROPERTY world for 3 years now and constantly being in the headspace of re-approaching my issues with religion is very unhealthy and continues to take its toll on my mental wellbeing. The idea of having to follow through with a full rollout, multiple tours for it, and keep living in that place sounds daunting and I’d rather take a beat and reapproach the next Waterparks album with love rather than fear and bad energy."

In the wake of the cancellation announcement, Waterparks released a short film for 'GUILT,' a track originally slated for inclusion on the shelved album. This release serves as a final glimpse into the project before the band moves forward.

Looking ahead, Waterparks teased their audience with a promise of exciting developments: "Without going into detail, you’re going to really enjoy the next few months." The band’s history of innovative and energetic releases suggests that their forthcoming work will continue to engage their fanbase.

This decision follows a period of significant artistic growth for the band. In recent months, Waterparks have been active with new music and tours, including the release of the single 'PROWLER' and the announcement of their sixth studio album, 'JINX.' Lead vocalist Awsten Knight has spoken candidly about the creative process and personal evolution between albums, emphasizing a commitment to authenticity and self-competition.

Waterparks have also maintained a strong connection with their fans through tours, including the Prowler Tour in North America and upcoming European and UK dates. Their engagement with audiences remains robust, underscored by recent collaborations and new music videos.

The cancellation of 'INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY 2: LOST IN THE PROPERTY' underscores the complex interplay between artistic vision, industry challenges, and personal wellbeing. Waterparks’ transparent communication highlights the importance of mental health considerations in creative industries and signals a strategic pause to foster future projects grounded in positivity and renewed energy.
