The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) hosted a significant high-level stakeholders meeting and Fireside Chat titled “Accelerating Nigeria’s Innovation System” on Monday, June 1, 2026, in Abuja, Nigeria. This event was co-curated with the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment as part of the official visit of WIPO Director-General Mr. Daren Tang to the WIPO Nigeria Office.

The gathering served as a platform for senior government officials, innovation stakeholders, and private sector leaders to engage in dialogue focused on advancing Nigeria’s intellectual property (IP) and innovation landscape. Discussions centered on strategies to accelerate the nation’s innovation ecosystem, with particular attention to the current state of IP commercialization and the structural support available to creators.

Participants examined the economic potential of establishing and maintaining robust IP frameworks in Nigeria, recognizing the critical role such frameworks play in fostering innovation and attracting investment.

Angela Adebayo Agbe-Davies attended the meeting as a private sector stakeholder, representing industry interests and contributing to conversations on driving IP development and protection within Nigeria.

Following the formal program, a dedicated networking session allowed stakeholders to connect directly, exchange insights, and engage with key leadership figures and industry specialists. This session was designed to strengthen collaboration and facilitate ongoing dialogue among participants committed to enhancing Nigeria’s innovation system.

The event underscored the importance of multi-sector collaboration in building a sustainable and dynamic innovation ecosystem. It also highlighted WIPO’s commitment to supporting member states through capacity building and strategic partnerships.
