Algerian Minister of Culture Highlights Nation’s Dedication to Intellectual Property at WIPO 68th Assembly

During the opening session of the 68th Session of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) held in Geneva on Tuesday, Algeria’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, articulated the country’s steadfast commitment to utilizing intellectual property as an effective tool for development and prosperity.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Culture and Arts, Minister Bendouda declared that Algeria places the protection of intellectual property at the core of its strategy to build a knowledge economy. She emphasized that supporting creators and safeguarding their rights are fundamental to transforming artistic and cultural value into tangible projects that contribute to development.

"Supporting creators and preserving their rights constitute the cornerstone to transform beauty, from an abstract value, into concrete projects with an impact on development, allowing young people to invest in their talents and convert them into sustainable economic assets," the minister stated.

Under the high patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Ministry continues its sustained efforts to cultivate an environment conducive to cultural investment, Bendouda added.

The minister highlighted key initiatives launched by her department, including the "Moubadar Art" project, which functions as an incubator and guide for emerging creative projects. She also referenced the "Ali Maâchi" President of the Republic Prize for Young Creators, an annual event that celebrates and promotes Algerian talent.

On the regional front, Minister Bendouda reiterated Algeria’s pivotal role as a training hub for executives from African and Arab countries, facilitated by WIPO. She noted that this reflects Algeria’s pioneering experience and its aspiration to build an integrated continental and Arab system that supports creative industries and preserves shared cultural heritage.

The minister’s remarks underscore Algeria’s strategic positioning within the global intellectual property landscape, emphasizing the intersection of IP protection, cultural development, and economic growth.

Additional cultural and cooperative initiatives mentioned in related reports include colloquiums preparing for national encounters on Algerian classical music and ongoing efforts to enhance intellectual property collaboration between Algeria and Saudi Arabia.

These developments reflect Algeria’s broader commitment to fostering innovation, protecting creators’ rights, and strengthening cultural industries as vital components of national and regional development strategies.
