MONSTA Secures Four Honors at Malaysia’s 2026 National IP Awards

Local animation powerhouse MONSTA achieved significant recognition at the 2026 National Intellectual Property Awards (AHIN), hosted by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). The studio was honored with four major awards, underscoring its influence in the creative and intellectual property sectors.

MONSTA’s accolades included the prestigious Special Award for Commercial Achievement, which acknowledges the studio’s success in commercializing intellectual property assets. In addition, MONSTA secured a bronze in the main category for Outstanding Intellectual Property Organisation (Best Intellectual Property Management), reflecting its effective strategies in organizing, protecting, and developing IP assets.

The studio’s flagship franchise, BoBoiBoy, was also celebrated at the event. MONSTA won gold in the Nadi Kreatif Award (Copyright) for BoBoiBoy Galaxy Season Two, and took home the Juara Jenama Award (Trademark) for BoBoiBoy Watch. These awards highlight the studio’s ability to expand the commercial value of its creations across multiple platforms and industries.

In a statement, MONSTA emphasized that the recognition not only strengthens its position as a content creator but also contributes to building a sustainable and globally competitive intellectual property ecosystem in Malaysia.

Nizam Abd Razak, Chief Executive Officer of MONSTA, commented on the significance of the awards, stating, “This recognition reflects MONSTA’s ability to strategically organise, protect and develop IP assets, from content creation to the expansion of commercial value across various platforms and industries.” He further noted that disciplined IP management is increasingly vital in the creative economy, and that the studio prioritizes innovation and robust protection for its core assets.

Nizam also acknowledged the crucial role played by MyIPO in helping MONSTA safeguard its intellectual property from misuse by third parties. He highlighted the importance of IP diversification, noting, “The potential of a single IP is vast, and it is up to us to boldly explore it.”

Faiz Zainal Abidin, MONSTA Media Director, reflected on the studio’s evolution over the past decade, stating that MONSTA has grown from a local animation studio into an IP enabler. He described the studio’s integrated approach, combining storytelling, technology, marketing, and commerce to create a comprehensive ecosystem.

“For us, animation is not just content on the screen. It is a 360-degree experience, from television to cinema, social media, and physical products such as quality toys, as well as collaborations with other brands,” Faiz said. He added that the trust of industry partners and MONSTA’s ability to export intellectual property to over 70 countries demonstrates that Malaysian IP can compete on the global stage.

The studio’s achievements align with the theme of this year’s National Intellectual Property Day, “Dari Idea ke Podium: Harta Intelek Nadi Malaysia MADANI.” MONSTA’s success illustrates how local ideas, when guided by effective strategy, can be transformed into high-value assets that contribute to national economic growth.
