Adams & Reese has made a significant addition to its Global Intellectual Property team by welcoming Partner Scott Sudderth, a seasoned professional with over three decades of experience in patent, trademark, and copyright law. Scott joins Adams & Reese after a successful 27-year tenure at the Atlanta office of Womble Bond Dickinson.

In a statement, Scott expressed his enthusiasm for joining Adams & Reese, highlighting the firm’s reputation for litigation success, portfolio management, and strategic enforcement. He emphasized the firm’s global recognition and its ability to support his clients’ complex innovations effectively.

Scott brings a wealth of experience to the team, having prepared and prosecuted nearly 2,000 U.S. and international patents and managed a portfolio of over 600 active patents throughout his career. His expertise lies in guiding national and international clients through IP prosecution and litigation processes.

Edward Playfair, Adams & Reese IP Team Leader, praised Scott’s global enforcement capabilities, complex diligence experience, and hands-on portfolio leadership. He emphasized Scott’s ability to enhance the firm’s IP practice not only in Atlanta but also on a global scale.

Scott’s legal background includes building and managing IP portfolios, conducting patent due diligence for investments and acquisitions, and representing clients before key authorities such as the USPTO, PTAB, and EPO. He is a seasoned litigator with successful defense and enforcement actions in the UK, Europe, and China, including a notable win in the Supreme Court of China that resulted in an injunction, damages, and property seizure for his client.

With a focus on technically sophisticated matters, Scott has represented clients across various industries, including advanced manufacturing, software, construction, textiles, machine controls, and security systems.

Mitch Boult, Adams & Reese Executive Committee Member, underscored Scott’s immediate impact on the firm’s ability to serve existing IP clients, including Global 500 companies and major international brands. Boult highlighted Scott’s contributions in protecting, scaling, and monetizing innovation across complex markets.

Additionally, Associate Reinier Smit has also joined Adams & Reese’s Global IP team this month. Reinier, with a background as a mechanical engineer and multiple patent-holding inventor, brings a unique skill set to the team. His expertise in areas such as horticulture further strengthens the firm’s capabilities in niche markets.

Adams & Reese’s Global Intellectual Property Practice caters to multi-national and middle-market companies globally, offering litigation support and strategic counsel on trademark, patent, and copyright matters.
