Samsung Seeks New Trial in $78 Million Loss, Citing Axed Patent

By Editorial Team

Samsung Electronics Co. is pushing for a new trial following a $78.5 million loss to Anonymous Media Research Holdings LLC in Texas. The tech giant argues that the verdict should be reconsidered due to the invalidation of a key patent by a California federal judge just days before the trial.

Judge Vince Chhabria of the Northern District of California ruled on September 12 that US Patent No. 10,719,848 was invalid in a separate case involving Roku Inc. Samsung contends that this ruling should have prevented Anonymous Media from asserting the same patent in their case.

The motion was filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, where the original trial took place. Samsung is seeking to overturn the previous verdict based on the recent development regarding the patent's validity.

This legal maneuver underscores Samsung's commitment to defending its intellectual property rights and challenging unfavorable judgments in court. The outcome of this request for a new trial could have significant implications for both Samsung and Anonymous Media Research Holdings LLC.
