‘Purple Rain’ Co-Star Ends ‘Apollonia’ Trademark Rights Suit

By Editorial Team

Patty Apollonia Kotero, known for her role as Prince’s co-star in the iconic 1984 film “Purple Rain,” has decided to drop her lawsuit against Prince’s estate over the rights to the name “Apollonia.” The legal battle came to a close with a mutual agreement between the parties, as confirmed by a filing in the US District Court for the Central District of California.

The lawsuit, which was initiated by Kotero, sought a declaration that she owned the trademark rights to the name “Apollonia.” Paisley Park Enterprises LLC, representing Prince’s estate, had a pending motion to dismiss the case. However, before any ruling was made, both parties agreed to dismiss the case without prejudice. As per the filing, each party will be responsible for their own legal fees and costs.

While the details of the settlement remain confidential, Kotero’s attorney, Daniel M. Cislo of Cislo & Thomas LLP, stated that his client is pleased with the resolution.

This legal dispute, which has now been resolved amicably, marks the end of a chapter in the ongoing legal matters surrounding Prince’s estate and intellectual property rights.
