The U.S. International Trade Commission announced on Thursday that it will be conducting an investigation to determine whether tech giants Apple, Google, Garmin, and Samsung have infringed upon UnaliWear Inc.'s patents related to fall detection technology in smartwatches. UnaliWear Inc. has accused these companies of violating its patents with the importation of their smartwatches. The patents in question are 10,051,410 and 10,687,193, which cover assist devices and systems, including fall detection technology. The companies involved in the investigation include Apple Inc., Garmin Ltd., Google LLC, and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. Additionally, Masimo Corp. has been named in the complaint. Legal firms representing the parties in this case include Baker Botts, Bartkowski PLLC, Desmarais LLP, DLA Piper, and Russ August.
