Samsung Receives Further Relief After Avoiding $112M IP Verdict

By Editorial Team

Samsung has secured additional relief after successfully challenging most claims in two Maxell Ltd. smart device patents, which had initially led to a $112 million jury verdict that was later overturned. The Patent Trial and Appeal Board invalidated the majority of the claims brought forth by Samsung in this case.

The two patents in question were:

  • 8,982,086 - Information processing apparatus
  • 11,017,815 - Editing method and recording and reproducing device

The law firms involved in the case were DLA Piper and Mayer Brown, representing Maxell Ltd. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. respectively. The government agency overseeing the case was the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

This decision marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle between Samsung and Maxell Ltd., providing Samsung with a favorable outcome following the initial unfavorable jury verdict.
