USPTO Announces Panelists and Agenda for Final PTAB Spring Listening Session

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has announced the details for the third and final session of its spring listening series focused on the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). This concluding event will take place on Monday, May 18, from 3 to 5 p.m. Eastern Time in the Clara Barton Auditorium at USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. The session will also be accessible virtually to accommodate remote participants.

The listening series aims to foster dialogue on the administration of the PTAB through expert panel discussions moderated by USPTO officials. Attendees interested in participating, either in person or online, are encouraged to register promptly. For those attending onsite, a U.S. government-issued REAL ID is required for entry into the USPTO facility.

The program will begin at 3:10 p.m. ET with the first panel featuring Ben Haber, Partner at O’Melveny & Myers; Jason Hoffman, Partner at Baker Hostetler; Ceyda Maisami, Chief IP Counsel at HP; and Amy Semet, Associate Professor of Law at the University at Buffalo School of Law, The State University of New York. This panel will discuss various aspects of PTAB administration until 4:05 p.m.

Following a brief transition, the second panel will convene from 4:05 to 5 p.m. ET. Panelists include Judge Paul Michel, Former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit; Adam Mossoff, Professor of Law at Antonin Scalia Law School, George Mason University; Corey Salsberg, Vice President and Global Head of IP Affairs at Novartis; and Jamie Simpson, Chief Policy Officer and Counsel at C4IP.

The USPTO has noted that live questions will not be entertained during the session. However, participants are invited to submit questions via email for consideration by the panelists.
