As part of the reorganization, Webtoon has launched a new Global IP Business division under the leadership of Maximilian Jo, who previously held key international business roles within the company. This division will oversee all aspects of IP monetization, including licensing, publishing partnerships, animation and film adaptation projects, and cross-platform IP expansion. The goal is to provide a streamlined, scalable framework for transforming top-performing digital stories into enduring global franchises.
Another cornerstone of the company’s reorganization is the formation of a Consumer Products division, which will focus on retail, publishing, and brand licensing initiatives. This team will lead efforts to develop physical products such as print editions of Webtoon titles, merchandise collections, collectibles, and branded collaborations that extend beyond the screen. With audiences deeply engaged with Webtoon’s serialized stories and characters, the company sees enormous potential in the consumer goods space to deepen fan engagement and drive additional revenue streams.
Webtoon’s strategic overhaul comes at a time when the global demand for fresh, adaptable intellectual property is booming. Streaming platforms, animation studios, and production companies are increasingly turning to platforms like Webtoon and Wattpad for unique, serialized content that comes with built-in audiences. Popular titles like Lore Olympus, True Beauty, The Remarried Empress, and Omniscient Reader have proven that stories born on digital platforms can thrive in new formats and attract millions of fans globally.
Under the banner of Webtoon Productions, the company is actively developing more than 100 original content projects, ranging from live-action adaptations and animation series to co-productions with leading studios across North America, Korea, and beyond. These initiatives are set to accelerate Webtoon’s presence in the global entertainment ecosystem while ensuring that its core creator-driven ethos remains intact.
CEO Ken Kim described the reorganization as a necessary step to align the company’s brand and structure with its long-term goals. “Webtoon is no longer just a digital platform—we are a global IP business,” Kim said. “This evolution positions us to better support our creators, deliver high-quality adaptations to fans, and build iconic franchises that resonate with audiences worldwide.”
