World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is Hiring: 3 Translator–Reviser (English/French) Roles Open in Geneva Switzerland

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is recruiting three Translator–Reviser (English/French) professionals for its Patents and Technology Sector in Geneva, Switzerland.

These positions are part of the French Translation Section within the PCT Translation Division, which plays a key role in producing high-quality translations for international patent documentation under the Patent Cooperation Treaty system.

The roles are graded at P4 level and are offered as fixed-term contracts of two years, with a maximum cumulative duration of five years.

The positions are situated within the French Translation Section of the PCT Translation Division. This division is responsible for delivering publication-ready translations of scientific, technical, and legal documents submitted under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

The overarching objective is to ensure that international patent information is accurately and consistently accessible in French, maintaining both linguistic precision and technical integrity.

The Translator–Reviser plays a central role in ensuring the quality and reliability of multilingual patent documentation. The position involves not only translation but also revision, quality assessment, and collaboration with technology systems, including AI-assisted translation tools.

Key responsibilities include assessing translation quality, revising human and machine-generated texts, and ensuring adherence to established linguistic and technical standards.

The incumbent also contributes to the improvement of translation workflows by engaging with emerging language technologies and artificial intelligence systems used in professional translation environments.

The role covers a broad range of tasks across translation, quality assurance, training, and terminology management.

The Translator–Reviser is responsible for translating and self-revising complex scientific and technical texts from English and at least one additional PCT language into French. The work must meet strict standards of accuracy, clarity, and timeliness, without requiring further review.

They also revise translations produced by internal staff or external providers to ensure consistency, correct terminology usage, and compliance with institutional guidelines.

A core function of the role involves evaluating the quality of translations produced by both human translators and machine translation systems. The Translator–Reviser provides detailed feedback to improve linguistic accuracy and overall performance.

The position requires close collaboration with technical teams to optimize AI-based translation systems. This includes adjusting prompts, testing outputs, and evaluating improvements in translation quality.

Familiarity with computer-assisted translation tools, terminology databases, and AI-driven language technologies is essential.

The incumbent contributes to the development and maintenance of specialized terminology databases. This includes identifying areas requiring terminological research and validating technical terms for use in official translations.

The Translator–Reviser provides training and mentorship to translators, trainees, and external contractors. This includes developing guidelines, conducting training sessions, and supporting quality improvement initiatives within the division.
