French IP Market Launches in India to Support Story Producers

By Editorial Team

The French Institute in India (IFI) organized the inaugural French IP Market in Mumbai over the weekend, bringing together leading French content creators and audiovisual professionals from India and Southeast Asia for two days of curated pitches, industry discussions, and business meetings.

Renowned film director and screenwriter Sriram Raghavan, known for films such as ‘Andhadhun’, participated in a discussion on how copyright and intellectual property influence adaptation, remakes, and storytelling within the entertainment industries of India and Southeast Asia. Raghavan highlighted the market’s role in providing ready-made content for projects, expediting the creative process.

Mathieu Bejot, Regional Audiovisual Attache of the French Institute in India, expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating that several French companies presented a wide range of intellectual properties (IP) at the market, including books, films, and film series across various genres.

The French IP Market, held alongside the Red Lorry Film Festival, aims to connect French rights holders with producers, broadcasters, streaming platforms, distributors, and literary agents interested in adapting French stories for Asian audiences. The initiative addresses the growing demand in the region for established intellectual properties suitable for reimagining in local markets.

A delegation representing multiple French companies and IP holders showcased their catalogues to industry professionals, fostering opportunities for adaptations, remakes, and co-production partnerships. Participating companies included Goodfellas Films, Le Pacte, Banijay Kids, and more.

The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Institut francais support this initiative as part of France’s strategy to promote the international circulation of its Cultural and Creative Industries and strengthen creative partnerships across Asia.

By establishing a dedicated platform for exchange between French and Asian industry players, the French IP Market aims to encourage new collaborations and enable French stories to reach global audiences through local adaptations.
