China Literature is showing impressive traction across its IP portfolio, with rising audience engagement, expanded product licensing, and improved merchandising performance,” CLSA stated in its report. “The recent uptick in both content popularity and product execution suggests a strong inflection point in its IP value realization.”

One of the key growth drivers is The King’s Avatar, which saw renewed momentum since the end of May, according to the report. The title’s success helped boost the company’s platform traffic and served as a springboard for related merchandise and licensing. Simultaneously, China Literature launched a robust campaign to promote Lord of Mysteries, one of its flagship fantasy titles, which also helped drive higher engagement across digital and physical formats.

CLSA also noted that the number of SKUs (stock-keeping units) for China Literature’s merchandise has tripled year-on-year, indicating rapid growth in the IP-to-consumer space. Improvements in product design, quality control, and operational execution further suggest that the company is moving toward a more sophisticated merchandising model.

The firm additionally highlighted “robust licensing demand” for China Literature’s drama adaptations and intellectual property. With a healthy pipeline of IPs being adapted into movies, TV series, and games, China Literature is well-positioned to generate new revenue streams beyond its online literature roots.

The positive rating comes just months after CLSA downgraded the company in February due to profitability concerns and uncertain content traction. The recent reversal underscores the growing confidence among investors in China Literature’s ability to leverage its IP library for long-term value.

China Literature, a subsidiary of Tencent, operates one of China’s largest digital reading platforms and has expanded aggressively into IP commercialization — including film, TV, games, and merchandise. Its strategy aims to transform successful stories from its online novels into full-blown franchises.
