DraftKings Successfully Dismisses Patent Lawsuit Over Micro-Betting Technology

By Editorial Team

DraftKings Inc. has emerged victorious in a legal battle where it was accused of infringing on micro-betting and location-based wagering patents. The lawsuit, brought against DraftKings by Micro-Gaming Ventures LLC, alleged that the Sportsbook website and mobile app utilized technology without proper authorization. However, a New Jersey federal judge ruled in favor of DraftKings, deeming the patents invalid as abstract ideas.

Judge Zahid N. Quraishi granted DraftKings' motion to dismiss the case and dismissed Micro-Gaming Ventures LLC's complaint with prejudice. The decision was made public in an opinion issued by the US District Court for the District of New Jersey on Monday.

The lawsuit was initiated in May 2025 by the Dallas-based developer of real-time in-game betting technology. The complaint asserted that DraftKings' Sportsbook products infringed on five patents that covered methods for managing micro-bets within larger events and providing video playback.

Despite the allegations, DraftKings successfully defended its position in court, leading to the dismissal of the patent lawsuit.
