EDTX Jury Says Samsung Owes $445.5M After Patent Trial

A Texas federal jury has ruled that Samsung must pay approximately $445.5 million after finding that the South Korean electronics giant infringed on a series of patents related to wireless communication network efficiency owned by Collision Communications.
The verdict came after a trial in which the jury determined that Samsung had infringed on several patents, including:
- 7,920,651 - Joint symbol, amplitude, and rate estimator
- 7,463,703 - Joint symbol, amplitude, and rate estimator
- 7,593,492 - Combinational hybrid turbo-MUD
- 6,947,505 - System for parameter estimation and tracking of interfering digitally modulated signals
The case was heard in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas before Judge James Rodney Gilstrap.
Law firms involved in the case included Caldwell Cassady, Gillam Smith, Miller Fair, and Quinn Emanuel. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. was the defendant in the case.
This ruling highlights the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in the technology and telecommunications sectors. Samsung has the option to appeal the decision.
