Federal Circuit Declines Review of USAA's $223M Patent Verdicts Against PNC Bank
By Editorial Team
The full Federal Circuit has decided not to review panel decisions that overturned two patent infringement verdicts totaling nearly $223 million against PNC Bank. The United Services Automobile Association (USAA) had argued that the appeals court erred in invalidating its mobile check deposit patents.
USAA's legal battle against PNC Bank saw the patent infringement verdicts nullified by the panel decisions. The patents in question related to systems and methods for remote deposit of checks, digital camera processing systems, and image monitoring of checks during mobile deposit.
The Federal Circuit's refusal to reconsider the panel decisions means that the invalidated $223 million patent verdicts against PNC Bank will stand. The case involved several law firms representing the parties, including Gillam Smith, Goodwin Procter, Irell & Manella, and WilmerHale.
The patents at the center of the dispute included numbers 10,402,638, 10,769,598, 10,621,559, 10,482,432, 8,977,571, 9,224,136, 8,699,779, 10,013,681, and 10,013,605.
This decision by the Federal Circuit marks a significant development in the ongoing legal battle between USAA and PNC Bank over patent infringement claims related to mobile check deposit technology.
