Shopee’s enhanced Brand IP Protection (BIP) portal also took center stage, with new features that streamline reporting, enable real-time monitoring, and support multiple languages—making the enforcement process more user-friendly and accessible.
Key highlights of the event included live demonstrations on how to file IP complaints, best practices for submitting effective takedown requests, and updates on Shopee’s evolving policies to combat counterfeits. The sessions were led by IP experts from both Shopee and IPOPHL, with representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and other key regulatory bodies also taking part in the discussions.
Shopee Philippines Director Martin Yu emphasized the platform’s ongoing commitment to supporting brand owners: “This bootcamp reflects our long-standing dedication to building a trustworthy e-commerce ecosystem. We’re committed to working with IPOPHL, brands, and consumers to ensure that digital commerce remains fair and safe for everyone.”
Meanwhile, IPOPHL Deputy Director General Nelson Laluces underscored the importance of proactive collaboration between the public and private sectors: “Strengthening IP enforcement in the digital space requires joint effort. Platforms like Shopee play a vital role in shielding consumers and creators from the risks of counterfeiting and piracy.”
The bootcamp forms part of IPOPHL’s broader campaign to tackle online infringement, which has surged globally amid the rise of digital commerce. By aligning with leading platforms like Shopee, IPOPHL hopes to close enforcement gaps, raise awareness among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and nurture respect for IP rights among online sellers.
Shopee also highlighted its growing investments in machine learning and content moderation tools that detect potentially infringing listings even before consumers come into contact with them. These preventative technologies complement user-led takedown mechanisms and make the marketplace safer by default.
With increasing digital transactions and a growing number of Filipino sellers participating in e-commerce, the need for robust IP protection has never been more urgent. The Shopee-IPOPHL partnership is a timely and strategic response to these challenges—ensuring that consumers can shop with confidence while businesses can thrive with their brands fully protected.
