Shein Moves To Toss Artist's 'Misguided' Copyright, RICO Suit
By Editorial Team
Shein has urged a California federal court to dismiss a proposed copyright and racketeering class action. The lawsuit accuses the fast-fashion online retailer of using advanced algorithmic systems and artificial intelligence to steal artists' works. Shein criticized the suit's attempt to equate the company with a criminal enterprise as "fanciful and severely misguided."
Shein's legal team filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that the allegations were baseless and lacked merit. The retailer emphasized that the claims made by the artist were unfounded and did not hold up under legal scrutiny.
The lawsuit, which sought to establish a class action against Shein, alleged that the company systematically used technology to appropriate artists' creations without proper authorization or compensation. The plaintiff accused Shein of engaging in a pattern of copyright infringement and racketeering activities.
According to Shein's legal representatives, the allegations in the lawsuit were unsubstantiated and failed to provide sufficient evidence to support the claims of copyright infringement and racketeering. The retailer maintained that it operates within the boundaries of the law and respects intellectual property rights.
The case is currently before the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The court will review Shein's motion to dismiss the lawsuit and determine the next steps in the legal proceedings.
