Sneaker Biz Sues KC Chiefs Stars Over '1587' Trademark Infringement

By Editorial Team

A luxury sneaker company has filed a lawsuit against Kansas City Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, alleging trademark infringement for their use of the name '1587' for their new steakhouse and apparel company, 1587 Prime. The sneaker company claims that the actions of Kelce and Mahomes have severely impacted its business, pushing it to the brink of collapse.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, accuses Kelce and Mahomes of unauthorized use of the '1587' name, which the sneaker company alleges is a registered trademark owned by them.

The complaint states that the association of the '1587' name with the steakhouse and apparel company owned by the NFL stars has caused confusion among consumers and damaged the reputation of the luxury sneaker brand.

The legal action seeks damages for trademark infringement and a permanent injunction to prevent Kelce and Mahomes from using the '1587' name in connection with their business ventures.

Both Kelce and Mahomes have yet to publicly comment on the lawsuit.

The case highlights the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and the potential legal consequences of infringing on trademarks owned by other businesses.

Law360 is closely monitoring the developments in this case and will provide updates as the legal proceedings unfold.
