I am very active in valuing patents. My patent valuation clients include inventors (from solo inventors to Fortune 100 companies), technology transfer offices, incubators, and hedge funds. I am hired to perform patent valuations in connection with capital raises, licensing, patent acquisitions, dispute resolution, corporate restructuring and other transactions (such as spin-offs) as well as by Bankruptcy judges. I developed two related designations--the Certified Patent Valuation Analyst designation (www.cpva.info) and the Certified Emerging Company Analyst program (www.certifiedeca.com.)
Through my valuation work, I have learned a great deal about negotiating mergers and acquisitions, licensing, capital raises, joint-ventures, sales and other interesting business transactions. In fact, I wrote the world's most voluminous book on negotiations. It is called, The Strategic Negotiator: A Manual for Negotiating at the Elite Level.
